Books for Benefits

Hoover Elementary School students were thrilled to welcome visitors from Books for Benefits. BFB is a student-led organization through University of Michigan. In its first year, their goal is to promote literacy to at-risk students.
Their mission is books, bags and bookmarks. After the group read a poem to the students and acted out a skit to Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat, they let students pick out two books. They also gave each student a bag, bookmark, pad of paper and an eraser.
In addition to distributing book bundles, BFB also sets up literacy events and participated in reading and tutoring in the Metro Detroit area. They also work with pen-pals, book clubs and book drives.
Hoover Elementary School was the groups first Literacy Day.
