Back to school movie night to return to Goudy Park

By Sarah Shurge – Wayne’s Back to School Movie Night and backpack giveaway will be returning to Goudy Park (3498 Second St.) on Friday, August 21st!
“There’s something truly special about returning to the heart of our community, especially with our newly remodeled amphitheater ready to welcome families once again,” said Lisa Kubany, Wayne Downtown Development Authority Marketing and Events Director.
Guests are welcome to begin lining up as early as 4 p.m., and there will be clearly marked signs directing everyone where to line-up. “We kindly ask for everyone’s patience and kindness while waiting in line so we can make the experience enjoyable for all,” said Kubany.
Backpacks will be distributed promptly at 5 p.m. (while supplies last). Children must be present to receive a backpack. “This event is about so much more than a movie. Every backpack represents hope, every smile reminds us why we do this, and every year I’m inspired by the generosity and heart of this incredible community,” said Kubany. “Knowing that we were able to play a small part in helping families prepare for a successful school year brings so much joy to all of us.”

Puffer Reds proudly joined the effort as one of the community partners providing backpacks for local children, helping students start the new school year prepared and ready to succeed.

The Dance Academy: DJ Lutalo will be playing music and games from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Food trucks on site: Fun Food Express, Emelias Taqueria (E Guac-n-roll), and Rainy’s Ice-cream truck.
“While our new playscape is still under construction, we know this year’s Back-to-school Movie Night will be filled with laughter, dancing, fun, and unforgettable memories,” said Kubany.
Movie: Barnyard will begin at 7:15 p.m. and free popcorn will be provided by the Wayne DDA. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets for the movie.
Sponsors of the event are: Wayne Downtown Development Authority, Puffer Reds, State Representative-Peter Herzberg, Frazier’s Towing & Auto Repair, Wayne-Westland Federal Credit Union, Ford Motor Company – Wayne Assembly, AKA Sports & Custom Apparel, First Congregational Church of Wayne, and CrossPointe Community Church.
“To our incredible sponsors and community partners, thank you! Your support does so much more than make this event possible, it helps local students start the school year with confidence,” said Kubany. “Wayne thrives when our businesses, organizations, elected leaders, churches, and residents come together with a shared purpose.”
