Imperial Press celebrates 40 years

By Sarah Shurge – “You name it, we print it. Nobody prints better for less than Imperial Press” is the motto of Imperial Press, which has been providing Metro Detroit with printing services since 1984.
Imperial Press celebrated 40 years of business at the beginning of April.
“It’s amazing that we’re still here and growing and expanding in a time like this. We’re doing better than ever,” said Chelsea Rushlow, Imperial Press owner.
Imperial Press is a print, mail, and marketing company, as well as a full apparel house (with every form of apparel printing) since 2019.
“If you don’t evolve, you fall behind,” said Rushlow. “Print shops have to constantly evolve and that’s what we’ve done. We’ve updated our equipment and evolved.”
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Imperial Press created customer retail protection shields and details for social distancing.
“We have been growing so rapidly since COVID. We did not just survive, we thrived,” said Rushlow.
Due to business growing, Imperial Press now has two locations.
Their main location is all paper products: calendars, notepads, business cards, pocket folders, etc. (all of their paper products and house paper is 100% American-made paper). While their rental location is apparel and promotional products.
They offer large format printing for any occasion, such as: canvas wraps, posters, banners, fabric flags, vinyl prints, and window clings.
“My customers and consumers, their success is my success. The more successful they are, the more printing they need from me. I want them to keep coming back, to boast about our great customer service and price dropping to their friends,” said Rushlow.
Imperial Press has a large number of repeat customers, and since they do zero marketing or advertising, all of their business is through word of mouth.
“Our repeat customers are faithful and loyal to us. We can’t thank them enough for their support and business, or how much we appreciate all the people they bring to us,” said Rushlow.
Rushlow has been with the business for 17 years, however, her father, Charles Rushlow, Imperial Press owner, started the business in 1984.
“My dad started the company with a broken down press that he got from a church. He repaired it on his own, before Google or YouTube even existed, and now he has two buildings full of millions of dollars worth of equipment,” said Rushlow. “He’s the perfect example of the ‘American dream’ in my opinion.”
Charles used to be the president of the Wayne Chamber of Commerce, part of the Wayne Rotary Club, and involved with other clubs as well.
Imperial Press still continues to be a supporter of the Wayne Chamber and many nonprofits throughout the year.
“I’m really excited we’re celebrating 40 years, my father is excited, and all of our team that has stuck with us all these years, they are excited,” said Rushlow. “We’re happy to be here, not only to conduct great business and have people coming back for more, but we love giving back to the community.”
Imperial Press’ most popular items are mailings and apparel, Rushlow suspects due to their lower price compared to competitors.
“I love my career,” said Rushlow. “I go to seminars and take time out of the day to stay up to date with the most current marketing methods. Everything is always constantly changing and you always have to stay updated.”
If you’re planning a wedding, Imperial Press offers wedding services such as: save the dates, invitations and RSVP cards, envelopes, return address stamps, table cards, napkins, seating charts, guest favors, and more.
You can stop by Imperial Press if you’re in need of any of the following: athletic gear, custom shirts, uniforms, yard signs, brochures, embroidery, newsletters, menus, flyers, letterheads, mouse pads, raffle tickets, custom mugs, design services, water bottles, wristbands, name tags, stationary, and so much more.
For the month of May, Imperial Press is offering $40 off every $200 order or more, as well as 20% off all embroidery.
