Lawrence leads Wayne City Council Primary; six candidates advance to November election

Wayne voters headed to the polls to select the candidates who will compete for three seats on the Wayne City Council in the November General Election.
With all three precincts reporting, 3,436 of the city’s 14,311 registered voters cast ballots, producing a 24.01 percent voter turnout.
A total of 6,030 votes were cast in the nonpartisan primary, where each voter could vote for up to three candidates.
Kathy Lawrence topped the field with 1,374 votes (22.79%), followed by Mathew P. Mulholland, who received 1,164 votes (19.30%), and Shannon Rochon with 1,040 votes (17.25%).
Rounding out the field were Alfred Brock with 823 votes (13.65%), Brett Macek with 614 votes (10.18%), Donald L. Quarles with 496 votes (8.23%), and DeVincent A. McFarlin with 456 votes (7.56%). Write-in candidates received 63 votes (1.04%).
Because seven candidates filed for the three available City Council seats, the primary reduced the field to six.
The top six vote-getters advance to the Tuesday, November 3, 2026, General Election, where voters will elect three council members to serve four-year terms.
The six advancing candidates – Kathy Lawrence, Mathew P. Mulholland, Shannon Rochon, Alfred Brock, Brett Macek and Donald L. Quarles – will now campaign through the fall before voters make the final decision in November.
The November election will determine who fills the three City Council seats up for election and will help shape Wayne’s leadership for the next four years.
