JROTC heading to national championship

Wayne Memorial JROTC members show off their Zebra Pride as Drill Team Champions.

By Carolyn Marnon – The Wayne Memorial JROTC program recently travelled to River Rouge High School for the annual Drill Team Competition. WMHS won this event last year and the cadets have been preparing all year to retain their title.
After rising to the challenge, the JROTC repeated as champions and were invited to the 2018 Army National Championship being held in Louisville, KY on April 14.
The following cadets received awards:
1st Place IDR Platoon Team led by Lizbeth Cortes
1st Place Exhibition Platoon led by Jacob Callahan
1st Place Exhibition Squad led by Jacob Callahan
1st Place First-year Cadet Color Guard led by Judy Ward
1st Place Female Exhibition Team led by Olga Malcolm
1st Place Varsity Color Guard led by Denisesia Thompson
2nd Place IDR Squad led by Kayla Newberry
Individual Knockout winners are:
Lizbeth Cortes 1st Place
Denisesia Thompson 2nd Place
Olga Malcolm 3rd Place
Dakotah Wells 10th Place

First Year Winners were:
Emoni Patton 3rd Place
Jonathan Colegrove 4th Place
