Wayne Main Street to host Jazz at the Avenue Fundraiser

Drink, Dine & Gather on The Avenue’s recently finished outdoor patio while supporting Wayne Main Street’s efforts to revitalize Downtown Wayne. Come sample craft beers and Michigan wines while enjoying local fare to the sounds of an acclaimed jazz trio. The $50 ticket price is all inclusive and seating is limited!
A silent auction showcasing Wayne businesses plus other items will take place during the event. Current auction items include tickets to a Detroit Tigers Baseball game at Comerica Park, a Special Edition 2015 Ford Mustang Diecast Car from Ford Motor Company, a VIP Tour & Tasting for 6 at Chateau Chantal Winery, and more!

About the band –  Award winning drummer, composer, educator, and bandleader, Jesse Kramer is one of the most exciting and promising young musicians in the mid-west. Kramer studied jazz at the University of Michigan, where he worked with Ellen Rowe, Michael Gould, Marion Hayden, Andrew Bishop, and Geri Allen.
Glenn Tucker is a jazz pianist from Ann Arbor, Michigan. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan, where he studied privately with Geri Allen. During high school, he studied with Tad Weed and Vincent York.
Originally from Southeast Michigan, Jordan Schug studied music at the University of North Texas on scholarship from 2000-2005, studying under Lynn Seaton. He then returned to Michigan and has been continuing his music career here ever since, almost exclusively playing professionally.

Mary Powers new Youth Coordinator
Mary Powers, a Wayne resident and undergraduate student at University of Michigan-Dearborn, has received a grant from the UM-Dearborn’s Civic Literacy Program. Powers, a current Main Street volunteer, will be joining Wayne Main Street from May through July as Youth Coordinator. The grant will be used to aid Powers’ efforts this summer in her position.
Powers goal is to encourage middle and high school students to participate in civic engagement through volunteering for Wayne Main Street. Wayne Main Street’s mission is to revitalize downtown Wayne using the Main Street Four Point Approach®. Powers will coordinate at least one interactive event this summer for the youth to attend that will focus on community based downtown revitalization through economic development and historic preservation.
A Youth Community Visioning Session is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, June 10th, at Wayne Memorial High School. There, youth will be welcomed to provide insight into what they would like to see happen in Downtown Wayne and given the opportunity to join a Junior Main Street committee to see their ideas through.

Second Partner Round Table meeting
The Wayne Main Street Organization Committee formally invites you to attend the second Partner Round Table meeting on Thursday, June 18, 2015.
Please join the 30 representatives of service organizations and churches in Wayne, who met during our initial Partner Round Table in January.  We will be sharing our activities and calendars from July through the end of this year.
One very exciting initiative we will share with you is that Wayne has been selected as one of four cities to participate in the Oakwood Healthcare System’s “Healthy Communities Leadership Coalition.”  This is a chance to hear about the new program and how the City of Wayne will be involved.
Wayne Main Street is a positive force working with our community, city government, business and property owners to preserve enhance and promote our historic downtown as a vibrant destination for residents and visitors to gather, shop, work and enjoy.  We believe you and your organizations are vital partners for the revitalization of Downtown Wayne.

Free business workshop
Wayne Main Street is excited to host another FREE business workshop which is scheduled for:

Jacob Schroeder will be our featured guest. Pure Michigan Business Connect (PMBC) is a multi-billion dollar public/private initiative developed by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) connecting buyers to suppliers of Michigan goods and services. Michigan companies can sign up for free to access this premier business-to-business (B2B) network and be introduced to opportunities to expand their supply chain within the state and access Michigan service providers, including pro bono and discounted services, such as legal, accounting, Web development, logistics and human resource assistance.
Peter McInerny, Community Development Director for the City of Wayne will also be presenting information about Wayne’s sign ordinance and will be available for questions and discussion at the meeting.
