Now Open in Wayne –
The Wayne Bicycle Shop is now open in Downtown Wayne. Located inside the Icon Computer Store on W. Michigan Avenue, The Wayne Bicycle Shop specializes in Cruiser bikes, parts, accessories, tune-ups and repairs. If you’re in the market for a new bike or some awesome bicycle accessories then check them out!

Absentee ballots
If you are age 60 or older or plan to be away on Tuesday, May 8, the day of the Recall Election, you may obtain an absentee ballot. The deadline to request a ballot is Saturday, May 5, at 2:00 p.m. Wayne City Clerk Matthew Miller advises residents to request the ballot prior to that. You must make a written request and must include a statutory reason why you will be eligible to receive an absentee ballot and include your signature.

History of the Wayne Post Office
Learn about the history of the Wayne Post Office from its humble beginnings to today. The Wayne Historical Society presents “History of the Wayne Post Office” on Thursday, March 8, at 7:00 p.m. at the Wayne Historical Museum.

Dueling piano party
The Wayne Rotary is presenting St. Paddy’s Dueling Piano Party on Saturday, March 10. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; show starts at 7:30 p.m. The party is at HYPE, 4635 Howe Rd. There will be a cash bar, food available for purchase, 50/50 raffles and fun. Tickets are $20 each. For more information, contact Gayle Rediske (734) 502-3202.

An evening with Dean Martin
Born in Toronto, John Morello has an amazing voice, which he has mastered to reflect the great artists that he admires. Performing as Dean Martin, the “King of Cool,” has given John an opportunity to travel North America sharing his interpretation of this phenomenal artist – the little things that give the impression – a chin movement, a certain gesture, a cigarette, a drink glass held loosely in hand, a voice that has audiences wanting to sing along and bringing them to their feet.
John’s warmth and obvious enjoyment of performing combines to create a show that is a pleasure for all in attendance.
John will be performing on Saturday, March 10, at Notre Dame Lounge,3144 S. Wayne Rd. Tickets are $35 and include dinner and the show.

One-stop health screening
Beaumont’s Community Health is offering One-Stop Health Screening at HYPE Recreation Center, 4635 Howe Rd, Wayne, through Wayne Senior Services. The screening, which includes blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose (diabetes), will be Wednesday, March 14, from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. You must be 18 years or older. No fasting is required nor is an appointment needed. The screening is free.

Swim night for women
HYPE Recreation Center is hosting Women’s Only Swim Nights on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month. Cost is $6 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Girls and women must be age 13 or older. No children under 13 and no boys allowed. HYPE is located at 4635 Howe Rd. For more information, call 734-721-7400.

Open house at Wayne Tower
Come see what living at Wayne Tower is all about during the Open House on Wednesday, March 28, from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served while you tour the model apartment at this senior living residence.

Several trips are being planned by Wayne Senior Services. You can join in and alleviate the hassle of planning and driving. You can pick up trip flyers at City Hall or the Senior Services office located inside HYPE Recreation Center, 4635 Howe Rd, or call Nancy at (734) 721-7460.

This trip has something for everyone. Four planned stops plus lunch with travel approximately two hours away. In which direction, we cannot say. Proof of citizenship is not required.

Wayne bicycle club season opener
The Wayne Bicycle Club will be rolling out on their season opener Thursday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m. All are welcome to ride. The Club meets at the State Wayne Phoenix Theater. The Club is planning some great rides for 2018 including Belle Isle, I-275 trails, Metro trails, Zukey Lake bike trail, downtown Detroit, downtown Ann Arbor, Depot Town in Ypsilanti and perhaps a few overnight trips to Lake Michigan.

Fairy garden workshop
Create your own miniature fairy or succulent garden at the Wayne Historical Museum, 1 Towne Square) on Saturday, April 7, at 1:00 p.m. Pot, dirt, 2 plants and some décor will be provided. Legal consultation for seniors
On Thursday, March 15, Wayne Senior Services will have an attorney available to answer any questions you might have. Appointments are for 15 minutes and are available to senior residents of Wayne who are 50 years or older. The appointments will be at HYPE Recreation Center, 4635 Howe Rd, Wayne. Cooking matters-diabetes
This 6-week workshop is a commitment of fun, interactive sessions presented by a trained culinary and nutrition instructor. Hands-on presentations demonstrate the link between nutrition and health, the affordability of healthy eating, healthy meal planning and cooking tips. Free groceries and cookbooks are included to practice new skills at home. This workshop provides specialized recipes and information for adults living with diabetes and their caregivers. The class starts Tuesday, April 4, and goes until May 9; meeting time is 6:00-8:00 p.m. Class is free and open to adults who have not previously enrolled in a Cooking Matters course. Zebra Safari coming soon
Get your tickets to the annual Zebra Safari sponsored by the Zebra Parent Advisory Council at Wayne Memorial High School. Proceeds from this event benefit the Class of 2018 for their Farewell Event and other student activities. Entertainment will be provided by WMHS students. Food will be provided by the William D. Ford Career Tech Center Culinary Arts staff and students. The event will be Friday, April 13, at the Dyer Senior Center, 36745 Marquette, Westland. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Dinner will begin at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $25 and are available until March 23. You can drop by Wayne Memorial High School 7:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Monday-Friday to get your tickets or call (734) 419-2200 to make other arrangements. Sponsorship levels are also available.
